When the water authority notifies you of a drinking water warning.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using: or use bottled water. You should use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice.

People with severely compromised immune systems, infants, and some elderly may be at increased risk. These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers. General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline at (800) 426-4791.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

Inadequately treated water may contain disease-causing organisms. These organisms include bacteria, viruses, and parasites which can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and associated headaches.

These symptoms, however, are not caused by organisms in drinking water, but, also, by other factors. If, you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice.

The authority will notify you by an automated message when you must boil your water and a posting on our web site. If you have any Questions, contact our emergency number 484-364-6260

Tips for conserving water.

  • Take shorter showers.
  • Only do full loads of wash.
  • Run dishwasher fully loaded.
  • Turn water off while brushing teeth.
  • Inspect water fixtures and toilets for leaks. A water faucet dripping will waste 25 gallons of water in 24 hours. A water faucet with 1/16th" stream will waste 100 gallons in 24 hours and 1/8th" stream of water will waste 400 gallons in 24 hours.
  • Water lawn & garden early A. M.
  • Learn location of the Master Water Valve in your home and mark with tag, ribbon or paint in order to immediately turn off the water in case of an emergency.
